West Pier Ahoy! By Lisa Holdcroft

West Pier Ahoy! by Lisa Holdcroft

A giant, fun-filled, original cartoon of the West Pier from one hundred years ago captured in all its glory

Perfect for all the family

Lisa loves to draw the colourful characters and tribes that populate the streets and seafront of Brighton, as well as the amazing architecture. She has an MA in Narrative Illustration and has completed commissions for Brighton Pride, Brighton and Hove Council and the National Trust.

In recent years Lisa has developed a keen interest in the history of the city and is finding ways to incorporate this into her work.

Using information carefully curated by West Pier historians Professor Fred Gray and Jackie Marsh-Hobbs, Lisa set about creating a picture of the West Pier as it was a hundred years ago featuring many of the entertainments and attractions that made the pier the go-to destination of its time.

By scanning pen and ink drawings and colouring them in Photoshop, the picture took two months to complete. Lisa hopes that it will be enjoyed by all, and children are especially welcome. Measuring 76 x 381cms, it will be the sole exhibit in the West Pier Centre. There will be an ‘I-Spy’ sheet available for spotting details and related merchandise for sale. http://lisaholdcroft.com Opens April Bank Holiday Weekend running throughout the summer.
