Our autumn exhibition at The West Pier Centre opens on 11 September 2026 and promises to show the West Pier as you have seldom seen it before.
Michael Steven Harris is an award-winning Brighton-based photographer who specialises in ‘landscape astrophotography’.
He creates “almost impossible photos of Brighton under starry skies – involving many late nights capturing comets, meteors, aurora, Big Moons and the Milky Way juxtaposed with the landmarks of Brighton and its surrounding countryside.”
Other elements of his photography capture Brighton “from a unique perspective highlighting how the changing seasons breathe new life into the city – with scenes including thick fog, stormy seas, low tides and cloud inversions.”
His work has received national and international recognition, the pinnacle being Highly Commended in the world-renowned Astronomy Photographer of the Year Awards 2024 by the Royal Museums Greenwich for his photo ‘Aurora Borealis over Brighton Seafront’.
Other achievements include winning the People’s Choice Award in the British Photography Awards 2025 and being named the overall winner in the South Downs National Park Astrophotography Competition 2026. Michael also won the Artist’s Open Houses Photographer of the Year 2023.
The exhibition will encompass Michael’s favourite work with a strong focus on the West Pier.
