Do you follow us on Facebook? It’s a good way of keeping abreast of developments, learning unusual facts about the pier’s history and seeing some great photos of the pier – contemporary and historic. We’ve just hit 900 likes – it would be so good to reach 1000 by the end of the year…!

Have you had a chance to get down to the site to see the fantastic graffiti now adorning the hoardings at beach level?

Come to the West Pier beach on Mondays or Wednesdays 9am – 11am until the end of September to join in the creativity. Lots of beautiful images of the pier are being made which you can look at on the website    

Gladys Powsey, was a famous aquatic entertainer who thrilled crowds with her daring dives and elegant acrobatics in the 1920’s. This short film is a gem, showing off the West Pier in its heyday and  Gladys’ astonishing  diving feats.

Royal Mail will issue these lovely stamps on 18th September

Maria Kuipers, a local artist, has been inspired by the West Pier site for some years.She is currently being funded by the Arts Council to develop a new body of work based on the changing West Pier redevelopments. He had a long association with Brighton starring as Pinkie in John Boulting’s film version of the Graham Greene classic ‘Brighton Rock’ and later, in 1968, directing  ‘Oh! What a Lovely War’.
